Wishful Beginnings
I learnt how to play the banjo in 4 hours. I incorrectly thought that it was the same tuning as a mandolin – that’s why it took me so long.
I believe that you should learn the bare minimum to get you through a song. There is something really exciting about seeing someone who shouldn’t be able to play a song complete it.
I like to play anything and everything on the banjo particularly the following:
Prince, Mötorhead, Elvis, Pixies, The Ramones, love songs in Spanish, Roy Orbison songs in Irish and Polish instrumentals.
Where Social Computing And Banjo Meet
On December 5th 2009 I played the world’s first 2.0 gig. In other words the audience wrote and performed the show. I was just hanging out playing my banjo when they wanted a particular song played.
Eggtimer
I also play bass guitar in the improvising rock band Eggtimer.
No permanent band members.
No rehearsals.
No songs.
No song is longer than 4 minutes.
